Following the critical and commercial success of Batman: The Animated Series, Warner Bros. Animation brought a similar style to Superman with Superman: The Animated Series, which ran for three seasons over a period of 5 years from 1996 to 2000. This Superman: The Animated Series action figure, released by Kenner in 1998, stands 12″ high and uses a body similar in style to Hasbro’s 12″ Hall of Fame G.I. Joes, 12″ Star Wars, and this 12″ 90s Man of Steel Superman covered previously on Collecting Superman. It wears a real cloth costume and has non-removable boots. Though I’m a big Mego fan, I think the smaller Superman: The Animated Series action figures do a better job capturing the style of the character.
The back of the box features a brief origin as well as the line “This 12″ figure is destined to become a classic collectible.” Since 15 years have passed, I can safely say that it hasn’t, but it’s still a nice figure.
