It’s been an interesting week as I hopped into my time machine and traveled back to the late 1990s when I would hit Toys R Us over and over looking for the newest action figures. Well, it certainly felt that way as I visited the local TRU and Wal-mart looking for the new Man of Steel toys.
Since last week, my local Wal-mart has had a sign up saying the new figures were coming on May 1. I’m not a big fan of Wal-mart, but I held my nose and visited May 1 and picked up these two Movie Masters figures.
(No, Toys R Us doesn’t have them yet. Neither does Target. Come on!)
This first series of Movie Masters consists of Superman, Jor-El wearing Kryptonian Armor, and General Zod. I didn’t pick up the first series Zod, because it’s pretty plain compared to this awesome General Zod with Battle Armor that I assume will show up in the second wave.
Here are a few pics of the figures. For whatever reason, I had a hard time getting a sharp, clear image; probably because the package designers went all out with the embossing on the blister bubble. The package design is very nice with the red cape draping the package and the big movie-style Superman emblem.
The figures themselves are pretty nice and extremely detailed, as you would expect for a collector-oriented product. The likenesses, particularly the Russell Crowe Jor-El, are a little soft, I think, but I might be spoiled by Hot Toys at this point.
Each of the two figures comes with a display stand, but that’s it as far as accessories.
At $15.97, these aren’t too bad. It was fun just to be able to buy a new Superman action figure off the pegs, which I haven’t done in a long time thanks to the New 52. I’m not a big fan of paying $20+ for an action figure, though…
