Following the critical and commercial success of Batman: The Animated Series, Warner Bros. Animation brought a similar style to Superman with Superman: The Animated Series, which ran for three seasons over a period of 5 years from 1996 to 2000. Back in March, I featured the Superman figure, and this Supergirl is the other figure that was released as part of this 12″ line, though there were several different characters released under a Batman animated line in this style.
This version of Supergirl, released in 1999, features her 90s costume created for the animated series: a white tee-shirt with her emblem, white gloves, a skirt, and a red cape and boots. Oh, and a headband. This costume lived on a short while in the comics, too, but was eventually revised within the animated universe to a more traditional red and blue.
Supergirl the character has a convoluted history; in the animated universe, she’s the last surivor of the planet Argo, a sister planet to Krypton, and was brought to Earth by Superman. You can read more about her on this page at the DC Animated Wiki.
