Fresh off the plane from Japan comes this set of four decal sheets of Superman. Each sheet measures about 3-1/8″ wide by 5-7/8″ high and is marked on the bottom in English with a company name of Showa Laminate Co. Ltd. These are undated, but my best guess is that they are from the 1970s; I am told that Showa Laminate operated from 1972 to 2001, so it’s definitely in that range. The text at the top says “Superman” and “© Kenrick;” I haven’t been able to figure out what Kenrick is, but the same marking is at the bottom of this Japanese kid’s watch display from the late 1970s and on the front of the Biken Superman Record Theater set from the early 1970s.
I have four different sheets with Superman in various poses, some weird looking monsters (love the fish man!), and Clark Kent looking very stylish in a purple suit. I don’t know how many different sheets of these decals were produced. If you have one that isn’t shown here, I’d love to see it.
